- ✅ Temperature resistance: short term (minutes, hours) 230 °C, long term (days, weeks) 150 °C
- ✅ For indoor and outdoor use
Uses and substrates
According to 3M, the tape bonds high and medium surface energy materials, including many metals (e.g. stainless steel) and plastics (e.g. polyamide, PMMA, ABS). 3M lists uses in metalworking, signage, appliances and specialty vehicles. The tape also withstands a powder coating line.
Application
- The surface must be sound, clean, dry and free of condensed moisture.
- Wipe it with a 3M™ VHB™ Surface Cleaner wipe or an isopropyl alcohol and water mix (about 50–70% IPA) and let it dry.
- On plastics and paints a primer clearly improves adhesion. According to 3M, rubber (e.g. EPDM, neoprene) needs an adhesion promoter.
- Press the tape on with more than 100 kPa (about 1 kg/cm²).
- The ideal application temperature is 21–38 °C. At 10 °C and down to 5 °C, 3M advises Adhesion Promoter AP111 or Primer 94.
- At room temperature the bond reaches about 50% of its strength after 20 minutes, 90% after 24 hours and full strength after 72 hours.
Storage
3M gives a shelf life of 24 months from the production date when stored at 16–25 °C and 40–65% relative humidity.
