Why aluminium

Stretch ceiling profiles are made of aluminium. The material properties behind this choice:

Weight — the density of aluminium is about 2.7 g/cm³ (steel: about 7.85 g/cm³). One running metre of profile weighs, depending on the cross-section, from about 125 g (CLASSIC 125) to about 790 g (DUAL DP). Low weight simplifies installation on suspended ceilings and lightweight structures
Rigidity — profiles do not deform under membrane tension. In the CLASSIC and COMFORT series rigidity is graded by wall thickness: CLASSIC 125 → CLASSIC HARD → CLASSIC 200 and COMFORT 130 → COMFORT HARD → COMFORT 200
Corrosion resistance — the natural aluminium oxide layer protects the profile from moisture. Profiles are also used in bathrooms and around pools without additional anti-corrosion treatment
Thermal conductivity — aluminium conducts heat well, which is why GAMMA series profiles act as a heatsink for LED strips and carry heat away from the diodes

Aluminium profile categories

Basic profiles (wall and ceiling mount)

Basic profiles are the simplest and most commonly used mounting elements. They are fixed to the wall (wall profiles) or to the ceiling slab (SU — ceiling-mount variants). They are used for single-level stretch ceilings without LED lighting.

The number in the CLASSIC and COMFORT names is the approximate mass of one running metre of raw profile in grams — not the profile height and not the distance between the ceiling and the slab: CLASSIC 125 and CLASSIC 200 have the same height of about 32 mm, COMFORT 130 about 31 mm. In the GAMMA and GK LINE IN series, by contrast, the number is the approximate width of the light line in millimetres. HARD versions are an intermediate grade of rigidity between the basic model and the stiffest one (200). The stiffer the profile, the better it holds the membrane tension on long straight runs and in large rooms — the choice is made by the installer for the specific project. The COMFORT 100, COMFORT 190, DELTA and DELTA-SU models have been withdrawn from the standard range (made to order, indicative price).

LED lighting profiles

LED profiles have a channel for the LED strip and a slot for the diffuser (frosted or clear). The GAMMA series is the core line for creating light lines in stretch ceilings.

The strip channel is wider than the light line: approx. 17 mm in GAMMA 20 SLIM and GAMMA 20F, approx. 31 mm in GAMMA 30 / 30 SLIM / 30 VERT (two strips fit side by side), approx. 45.6 mm in GAMMA 50 (up to three 12 mm strips). LED strips come in 8, 10 and 12 mm widths. GAMMA 10 is a separator (membrane divider): it is used to split a large ceiling into zones or to create a minimal gap between two membranes, not to hold an LED strip.

Niche profiles

Niche profiles create recesses and a shadow gap between the membrane and the wall or between two membranes. The visual effect: the ceiling appears to float in the air.

SIGMA — a niche (with or without the membrane wrapped in) for a curtain track in the stretch ceiling, without lighting
SIGMA-NEO LED — niche profile with space for an LED strip: multi-level ceilings and backlit transitions

Two-level profiles

Two-level profiles allow a ceiling to be installed at two heights from a single element:

DUAL DP — transition with LED lighting, two independent membranes; flexible diffuser 20 mm wide
DUAL OP — transition without lighting; step height 72.5 mm, minimum bending radius 10 cm, the mounting gap is concealed by the TSP.T7 trim insert
DUAL DU — transition with overlapping membranes, no decorative insert; step height 60 mm, minimum bending radius 10 cm

ARC-F70 — arch profile for curved ceiling shapes with LED lighting
GARDINA PK-15 — aluminium curtain rail built into the stretch ceiling
GARDINA AM-1 — curtain rail with an additional LED strip channel
GK LINE IN 20, GK LINE IN 30 — LED profiles for plasterboard constructions; light slot 20.1 mm and 34 mm, height 14.4 mm. GK LINE IN 20 takes the same diffuser as GAMMA 20, so a light line can be carried from the stretch ceiling onto a plasterboard wall
STEP — wall profile for ceilings with LED lighting along the walls, with a 4 mm step; used with a 30 mm diffuser
CONCEPT, ACTIVE — profiles for light lines in plasterboard constructions, for 8–10 mm strips: CONCEPT is recessed (separating), ACTIVE is surface-mounted with a slim visible frame

How to select a profile for your project

Profile selection depends on five factors:

Mount type — wall (CLASSIC, COMFORT) or ceiling (CLASSIC-SU, COMFORT-SU). Ceiling-mount profiles are used when the wall is not stable enough or the design requires direct attachment to the slab. The drop below the slab is set by the mounting method and the installer’s decision, not by the number in the profile name
Rigidity — for long straight runs and large surfaces choose the stiffer models (HARD or 200); the decision is made by the installer for the specific project
LED lighting — if the project requires light lines, choose GAMMA profiles (with diffuser) or SIGMA-NEO LED (backlit shadow gap)
Number of levels — single-level ceiling: basic profiles. Two-level: DUAL profiles. Square frames: DUAL DP, GAMMA or SIGMA-NEO LED
Shape — straight runs: any profile. Curves and arches: profiles bent to size on request (e.g. ARC-F70)

Frequently asked questions

Can stretch ceiling aluminium profiles be installed by yourself?

Mounting the profiles is technically straightforward — it requires a drill, a spirit level and expansion anchors. Tensioning the PVC membrane, however, requires a gas heater and experience. Basic and GAMMA profiles can be installed by experienced fitters working on their own; two-level and curved constructions call for more practice.

Which profiles should I choose for LED lighting in a stretch ceiling?
